We fielded a mixed team of Year 5 and 6 pupils for a 5-a-side football tournament at Buckler’s Mead Academy in Yeovil. They hadn’t trained together as a team before but held their own and played with great spirit, which made me very proud.

In mid-November we held an Anti-Bullying Week where we all wore odd socks and delivered specific lessons on what bullying is in its various forms and what to do when it happens. Also how to recognise it and  help someone if you see them being bullied. This was part of our Personal Social Health Education programme at the school. One mother came to see me as her son, aged six, refused to come in that day, telling her that there aren’t any bullies here. Long may that continue!

On the 17^th we organised for the first time a sponsored run for Children in Need. Everyone dressed up in fancy costumes and was asked to run as far as possible around the school field in three minutes. I’m very proud (again!) to report that all 91 children took part and raised a staggering £1,900. This is the largest amount we’ve ever raised in a day and our children have very big hearts as do their families who sponsored them. Thanks to everyone!

Lastly, courtesy of the PTA, three learned gentlemen from the Royal Astronomical Society visited us with their fantastic telescopes for an Astronomy Night and some serious star gazing. This fitted in with Year 5 & 6’s Science Topic and 60 children from our school and the village attended to see wonderful views of Saturn and its rings, the surface of the moon and other planets. The PTA also organised coffee, cake and a raffle for second hand Xmas jumpers. Thanks so much!
