Welcome back to the blog after half term and I hope you had a good break. May was a short month for the school as we had the Bank Holidays and half term, but we were still pretty busy! Our girls in KS2 (7-11 year-olds) took part in the England Schools Tournament, a football fest with 15 teams. They attended six training sessions to hone their skills before the matches. This took place at Yeovil Recreation Ground and we came third! The girls all got medals and a football from the FA, which makes me very proud. Well done! Future Lionesses?

We also had Careers Week where people from different areas of work came to talk to us about their very wide range of activities. Among some of our visitors, we had a kitchen and bathroom fitter, doctors, social workers and footballers from Yeovil Town FC.  This was particularly sobering as they pointed out that just 0.2%  players make it in the sport. We’re so grateful to these kind people for giving up their time to address the children, which is very important. Why? It opens a window on the world of work outside the village and Yeovil, sending the message that you can do anything anywhere if you really go for it!

On the last day of term we had Joanna Stimpson, one of the FA’s National Refereeing Managers, coming to St Margaret’s to talk about refereeing as a profession and also to present the team with their tournament medals and the football. Thanks Joanna!
