April 2025 Blog
We’re now back from the Easter holiday and I hope you and your children all had a good break. Because of the time off it was a short month for us at school but we packed a lot in! Adventures class spent the whole day at the Bath and West Showground for their Field to Food Learning Day. We learned how farming works, all about crops and the origins of the food that lands on our table. We also saw many different types of farm machinery. This included an extraordinary machine which, yes, trims cows’ nails. They loved it (that’s the cows) and mooed their approval. The children were also well pleased!
On the last day of term the whole school attended the Easter Service at St Margaret’s Church in the village and pupils of all ages read prayers they had written. We also heard the stories of Easter and how important it is. Finally we sang Easter hymns.
VE Day was also a big event which we celebrated at the school. We started with the link to the TV Big Assembly and learned about the origins and reasons for World War II - how many countries fought and how many lives were lost. We also heard first-hand testimony of the current war in Europe between Russia and Ukraine, this came from a 17-year-old girl going to school in Kiev. Very moving. The pupils then did follow-up work associated with VE Day, some painting, bunting and medal making, spitfire decorating, parachute games and even "trench" digging! Then we had a whole school picnic lunch with everyone sitting at a long table in the playground, and wearing red white and blue. On the menu were mini sausage rolls, cup cakes and sandwiches!
