With heavy hearts we said farewell to our lovely Year 6 pupils, who gave us their Leaving Performance as is the tradition at the school. This was Robin Hood and the Sherwood Hoodies, which caused much merriment. The Class of ’23 later treated us to Classtonbury where they sang and shared their best and worst memories St Margaret’s. They also shared their dreams of where they’re going on their next stage in life.
Yeovale Rotary, our wonderful supporters, presented the leavers with a dictionary, a Bible and a memory stick of each individual through their years at the school. There followed a big game of rounders with the teachers, who, I’m ashamed to say, cheated with impunity, but to no avail as we lost. Of course.
We also took part in Virgin Money’s Grow £5 programme for junior entrepreneurs where Year 6 pupils had seed money of a fiver to create their own business. Three Rotary members came to the school to judge the entries and ask questions. The winning team was the one which made most money from its idea. And that was a keyring featuring on one side a personalised photo and on the other, St Margaret’s School. Yeovale Rotary Club generously donated enough money to make 200 keyrings. Other ideas involved cakes & cookies, and board games.
Finally, we had Shuffle Up Day where everyone shuffles up a class and spends the day with their next teacher. This worked well and all the children including the Nursery class going into Reception left school very excited.
