Safety was the theme for February and we started with a visit from Somerset Road Safety. The gentleman spoke to every class about road safety and crossing roads. He also told the older pupils what is dangerous either as a cyclist or a pedestrian. Included was a definition of what an offence is when riding a bike.
Then we had Safer Internet Day – a subject we teach through our safeguarding lessons. I taught Years 3 & 4 Technology Through the Ages but they couldn’t work out how we used dial phones to make calls in the past. Very logically, they asked what sense it made having 999 as the emergencies number when it took the longest time to dial the 9s! Very perceptive and BT will be in good hands in 20 years’ time! On a more serious note, we discussed the dangers of being on social media sites and the rows that can ensue. It’s very important that the school and parents work as a team on this, as trauma caused when children are online at home impacts in school, spilling onto the playground.
Our little Lionesses. Eight girls from Years 3 and 4 have now done three training sessions at Yeovil Town FC and are taking part in a tournament with 9 other schools in March. More about the results next month’s blog!
This is a rather shorter update for February as we had a week off for half term and I hope you were able to enjoy some quality time with your children.
