Two community events took place in May: the children created special cards for 30 elderly and vulnerable people in the village to bring them love and good cheer.

We also received hours of wonderful work given free by the community. This included tidying up the playground, clearing gutters and installing a new tap at the front of the school for our new Sensory Garden. Two members of the Tintinhull Gardening Group sorted all our raised beds and pots, and we are so grateful to everyone!

Lastly, we were honoured to receive the Gold Award from The Woodland Trust. This was for our dedicated care of the environment and puts us in the top 8 per cent of green primary schools in the UK, according to Woodland Trust figures. Well done everyone!

We were chuffed again to be featured in the Western Gazette in a top page story with photo, headlined: ‘Gold sprouts from their commitment to green values’. This was trailed earlier in the paper as ‘Green Gold Award for eco-commitment’.

The Yeovil Press newspaper also ran a story and photo, headlined: ‘Pupils go top of the class for environmental issues – that’s official!’

We are very proud of our Gold Award and it underlines the importance we place on teaching the children how to care for the environment and love nature.
