School Swimming and Water Safety

Water Safety; Resources & Activities | Bucks School Swimming Partnership
Open water swimming in London | Swim England London Region

At St Margaret’s, we are proud to be part of the Swim England School Swimming and Water Safety Charter. This means that we work in partnership with Swim England, the national governing body for swimming in England, to ensure that our pupils receive consistently high-quality swimming and water safety lessons.

We take school swimming seriously and are committed to helping every child develop the confidence, skills and knowledge they need to stay safe in and around water.

We are very fortunate to have access to our village swimming pool, which allows us to provide swimming lessons for our children during the summer months.

Providing Reward and Recognition for Your Child

During their school swimming and water safety lessons, your child will work towards achieving eight different levels of the Swim England Awards. Each level has its own certificate, allowing children to celebrate their progress and achievements along the way.

Once your child has completed all eight awards, their school swimming programme will come to an end and they will take part in their usual school-based PE lessons instead.

This approach enables us to focus on ensuring that as many children as possible achieve the swimming and water safety standards required by the National Curriculum, including being able to swim confidently and perform a safe self-rescue.

These are essential life skills that can help children stay safe around water.

School Swimming Champion

Our designated School Swimming Champion is Ms H Robinson

They are the central point of contact for pupils, parents and carers, school staff and our swimming lesson provider. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s swimming lessons or progress, please contact School Office.

Your Role Is Vital

We take school swimming seriously and hope that you will join us in encouraging your child to take part positively and do their best during every lesson.

As well as ensuring that your child has everything they need to participate in their swimming sessions, we encourage you to take an active interest in their progress and celebrate their achievements.

By working together, we can ensure that school swimming and water safety is an enjoyable, memorable and valuable learning experience for every child.

Most importantly, we can help your child develop an essential life skill that could one day save their life.
