Red Nose Day was momentous this month as the children raised a record £423.87. One of the main fund-raisers was a Danceathon, where Year 6 designed dances for every class in the school. These were performed through the day with teachers. Well done everyone for both the amazing energy and creativity!
Five members of The Royal Navy visited in March to hold STEM sessions (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) with Years 5 and 6. They did two hour sessions on three activities: Making circuits to find out how to increase and decrease the level of power to switch on a light. Doing the same to set off a buzzer to close a door. And, thirdly, using code to design a programme on an I-pad to control a gyroscope, enabling it to move independently, vibrate and jump.
Our Discoverers class (2-4 year olds) did a sponsored Reading Competition with the help of one of our wonderful parents who runs a book club. We created a whole reading area where the children listened to the reading and then painted fairies and dragons from the books brought in.
And, lastly, we held our Tea, Cake & Warm Space afternoons every Wednesday through the month. The brainchild of Year 6, these involved tea and coffee for everyone in the village as well as some really scrummy cakes, baked by the pupils! The goal was to raise money so that every single member of Year 6 can go on a three-day residential trip to the seaside in July. We had spoken about the cost of living crisis affecting everyone and Year 6 themselves created this activity to raise £460. A wonderful idea, brilliantly executed!
