June 2024 Blog

  • June saw Sky Arts Week where each class did its own art project, creating a wonderful variety of work for the St Margaret’s Gallery which ran through the school. On show were works inspired by art from around the world: from China, Australia, Japan and Mexico. We had black Japanese calligraphy, paper cutting from China and handprints from Aboriginal art with dotted patterns. A lot of parents visited and were very impressed. Eat your heart out Tate Modern!
  • Years 1 and 2 have been studying The Great Fire of London and painted Bun Lane as it was and then during the blaze. They created models of it with paper and card and then outside set fire to them to a great cheer!
  • Years 3 and 4 focused on environmental art, investigating climate change and environmental dangers – both natural and man-made. After much research, we had many pictures, including grey squirrels, knotweed and Brazilian hornets as well as plastics and pollution.
  • Year 6 went off to Braeside near Devizes in Wiltshire for three days and two nights on their Residential Trip and for some it was their first time completely away from home. Activities took in canoeing, swimming, abseiling and the crate challenge. This involved two teams stacking crates to the ceiling and then jumping off. All were well harnessed and all of them did every single activity … including a night walk bat-watching!
